Compare the stays you already found — like-for-like, not another search box.
01 / The job
Capture layer: a Chrome extension. Not a hotel search engine.
StayCompare is for the moment you have three tabs open — Booking, Airbnb, a hotel site — and “cheaper” might just mean a different room, different dates, or taxes hiding behind a second panel. You add the offer you are looking at. The comparison is of those offers, not of a catalogue we crawled.
02 / Why an extension
It has to see the page you see
Prices, member rates, fees in a modal, cancellation lines — they live in the tab, after your cookies and dates. A website you paste a URL into usually cannot reconstruct that quote. So we do not pretend to search Paris. We help you decide among stays you already opened.
03 / What like-for-like has to hold
Dates, nights, guests, room type and beds — mixing these is how people book the wrong trip.
Headline vs total, currency, taxes, resort and cleaning fees. “Unknown fee” beats a fake total.
Cancellation, prepay, extras (breakfast, parking), rating with its source, and when the quote was captured.
Source URL so you can reopen the exact offer. We are not building a public hotel index.
04 / Honest scope
This is a clever little machine in the shop’s sense: one job, done on your machine, for the shortlist you made. It is not “type a city, see 400 hotels.” Phone browsers do not run the extension; capture is desktop Chromium first. If you want it, or want to try a shortlist workflow, get in touch — we are not dressing it up as a live Web Store listing here.
